Johnson's early career
Johnson began his professional MMA career in 2008, fighting mostly in smaller promotions. He quickly made a name for himself with his aggressive style and powerful striking. Johnson and Nurmagomedov met in the main event of UFC 269 in December 2021. Johnson gave a valiant effort, but he was ultimately defeated by Nurmagomedov via submission in the second round.
